List of Area Farmer's Markets: Always a Great Way to Get Fresh Produce
One of my favorite things about St. Louis is our close proximity to local farms. Our city oasis is surrounded by rich farmland and several farmers markets! Farmers markets are an excellent way to buy fresh, locally grown produce. Whether you are a resident or tourist, make sure you take advantage of one of these great outdoor markets!
Soulard Market
Hours: Wens & Thurs the Grand Hall & a few outdoor booths are open from 8 am - 5pm. Friday from 7 am - 5pm, Saturday 7 am - 5:30 pm, closed Sunday - Tuesday.
Location: 730 Carroll St 63104
Contact: http://www.soulardmarket.com/index.html
Market Tip: Many vendors begin marking down their items after 3pm, a great way to take home a ton of goodies! Be sure to bring reusable bags and even borrow the kiddos wagon to help haul around your purchases. Also, check their website for coupons & other festivities they hold regularly :)
Kirkwood Farmers Market
Hours: April 9th - Sept 24th Mon - Fri 9am - 6pm, Sat 8am - 5pm, Sunday hours vary by vendors. Check website for winter month times.
Location: 150 E Argone Drive in heart of downtown Kirkwood
Contact: http://www.downtownkirkwood.com/kirkwood-farmers-market.asp
Market Tip: This market has that old town feel, excellent family atmosphere, and awesome pumpkins! During November and December the market transforms into a Christmas Market. Everything from Christmas trees, wreaths, handmade bows to The Gingerbread Shoppe serving fresh baked goods and other holiday treats! Again, be prepared to lug around your haul with a two wheel cart and reusable bags!
Maplewood Farmers Market
Hours: May - October, every Wednesday from 4pm - 7pm.
Location: 7260 Southwest Ave 63143 @ Schlafly Bottleworks
Contact: www.schlafly.com
Market Tip: This farmers market is relatively young compared to say Soulard, but none the less, they offer a unique setting and great items! They also have a winter market that sets up inside Schlafly's Crown Room. Truly a wonderful mesh of food, beer, and shopping!
Alton Farmers & Artisans Market

Alton Farmers & Artisans Market
Hours: Every Saturday from 8am - 12pm from June to October
Location: Behind Third Street in Alton Illinois
Contact: 618-463-1016
Market Tips: Love crossing over the river to stop in at this market whenever I have a chance. They offer fresh produce but also have several artisans offering their handmade crafts as well. Plus, the town of Alton is a must stop when you need a little change of pace. The town has several great shops and places to eat. And best of all, it's only about 20 minutes from the city!
